About The Artist
My work is contemporary and fun, sometimes obscure but mainly impressionistic. I like to capture moods and use colour in my beach scenes, boats, portraits an landscape.
I often sketch first although sometimes paint straight onto canvas or stretched paper. I nearly always use pencil or ink to emphasise detail to my paintings. I like to experiment with colour and textures and may scratch into or mask area on paintings.
I am constantly inspired by the sea and wonderful light conditions on the south coast. My favourite painting is of the sun setting on the beach forming a natural cross on the seascape instilling a feeling of tranquillity. I can almost taste the salt air and hear the sea birds as I paint, they reflect the many, many walks I have with my dog Maisie and the fun she has in the surf. She never fails to make me laugh which is good for the soul. I love landscape painting in the open air where the sunlight transforms the subject matter and have recently tried my hand at portraiture.... interesting and one still to master I think!
To create an item of joy which can give pleasure to others has to be the ultimate aim.
I have always sketched for as long as I can remember. I have completed many life drawing short courses and studied textile design at Northbrook College and garden design as part of the Open University.
I have two adult children, my son lives in New Zealand and my daughter is a business consultant, both have wonderful partners. I am very luck to have and amzsing supportive partner, two Grandchildren, Amelie and Louis and a dog called Maisie.
